YLE Starters

Starters helps the child take his first steps towards learning English. This is the first of the three levels for young learners. This level introduces the child to basic English in a fun environment and is an excellent way for children to gain confidence and improve their English. It focusses on the skills needed to communicate effectively in English through listening, speaking, reading and writing.

After completing this level, the child will be able to:

a. Understand basic English content on the Internet

b. Enjoy books, songs, television and films in English

c. Make friends globally



YLE Movers

Movers is the next step in a child’s English language learning journey. It introduces children to everyday written and spoken English enabling them to be confident to use and keep improving their English. All four skills are further practiced and consolidated.

Completing this level will enable children to:

a. Understand basic instructions and take part in simple conversations

b. Understand basic notices, instructions or information

c. Complete basic forms and write notes, including times, days and places

YLE Flyers

Flyers is the third step of the fun-filled, activity based English programme. This programme is conducted around familiar topics and focusses on skills needed to communicate effectively.

Upon completion of this level, the child will be able to:

a. Understand simple written English

b. Communicate effectively in familiar situations

c. Understand and use basic phrases and expressions

d. Interact with English speakers who converse slowly and clearly

Key for Schools

Key for Schools is designed for school aged learners and prepares them for higher level English qualifications. An A2 Key for Schools qualification shows that a student can communicate in simple situations. It is the logical step after the YLE levels and a good place for older children to start learning English as well. It gives students the confidence to go on to study for higher level English exams such as B1 Preliminary for Schools.

This level will enable students to:

a. Understand and use basic English phrases and expressions confidently

b. Understand simple written English

c. Introduce themselves and answer basic questions about themselves

d. Interact with English speakers at a basic level

Preliminary for Schools

Preliminary for Schools is an intermediate level qualification. It shows the student has practical language skills for everyday use. It also demonstrates that the child has mastered the basics and now has practical language skills for everyday use. This level is a logical step in a student’s language learning journey between A2 Ket for Schools and B2 First for Schools.

After this level, students will be able to:

a. Read simple textbooks and articles in English

b. Understand factual information

c. Show awareness of opinions and mood in spoken and written English

First for Schools

First for Schools qualification shows that the child has the language skills to communicate confidently and effectively in an English-speaking environment. The content is aimed at school aged learners rather than adults.

Completion of this level will enable your child to:

a. Communicate effectively face to face, express opinions and present arguments

b. Write clear detailed English, express opinions and explain advantages and disadvantages of different points of view

c. Follow the news

d. Write reports, stories and a range of other types of texts
